Karimnagar Zilla Parishad schools to get a facelift

  • Rs. 45 lakhs for repairs, maintenance of all schools

    KARIMNAGAR: Zilla Parishad high schools in Karimnagar district will get a facelift under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme with the construction of permanent buildings to the high schools and providing other facilities such as toilets, sanitation and drinking water under the Rural Water Supply (RWS) scheme.

    Poor facilities

    In Karimnagar district, there are around 104 schools without proper school buildings.

    Against a total of 4,656 ZPHS, 1,865 schools do not have toilets and sanitation in their schools, while another 1,128 schools do not have drinking water facilities.

    NABARD fund

    In order to provide proper accommodation to the schools, the NABARD had decided to fund for the construction of school buildings under RIDF scheme.

    In the first phase, it has decided to construct 61 school buildings at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore. Later, in a phased manner complete construction of all school buildings within three years period.

    Under the Rural water supply (RWS) scheme, it was decided to construct toilets at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore and drinking water schemes at Rs 3.7 crore. Besides, under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme, additional 745 classrooms would be constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore in the district.

    Talking to The Hindu here on Wednesday, DEO R. Surender Reddy said that the government has freshly released Rs. 45 lakhs under the 12th Finance Commission for the repairs and maintenance of all government schools in the district.

    He said that they would send the proposals and take up repairs of all schools during this year.
