Sedition case against Geelani

Staff Reporter

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir police have registered a case against the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for preaching sedition on the day of Id-ul-Adha at Shaheedi Chowk, Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kotwal told The Hindu here on Tuesday.

He said the case was filed under Section 124 A of the Ranbir Penal Code. Mr. Geelani in his address said Jammu and Kashmir was a disputed State and the dispute should be settled as per the aspirations of its people.

A similar case is pending against Mr. Geelani at Surankote where he was charged with espousing sedition against the state in his public address some years back.
