IN PROTEST: Members of the Kannada Sena staging a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Gulbarga on Wednesday.
GULBARGA: The Gulbarga district unit of the Kannada Sena on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office and presented a memorandum in protest against the alleged removal of a Kannada flag and also the replacing the name board of V.R. Naidu Nagar at Srirampuram in Bangalore city with a name board proclaiming it as Veerappan Nagar, the dead forest brigand. Activists of the Sena, led by its president Shivasharanappa Khanadal and M.D. Patil, shouted slogans against those who had removed the Kannada flag and demanded that the Government arrest the culprits and extern them from the State. In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and presented to the to the Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey, the Sena termed the incident as an insult to Kannada and the people of Karnataka. It criticised an incident of defiling the statue of thespian Rajkumar in Mysore a few days ago. The activists wanted the Government to reinstall the name board of V.R. Naidu in the same place and also hoist the Kannada flag immediately. They also wanted the Government to arrest those responsible before January 8. The Sena threatened to launch an agitation from January 10 throughout the district if the Government failed to arrest the culprits before the deadline.
