KADAPA: Gramaikya Sanghams (village organisations) comprising poor women will disburse pensions in 10 mandals on an experimental basis from this month, DRDA Project Director J. Ashok Reddy said on Wednesday. Pension disbursal through VOs was mooted to avert delays and ensure transparency in view of complaints from beneficiaries on disbursal of pensions of Rs. 200 each, Mr. Reddy said. VOs were disbursing pensions in Chittoor and Anantapur districts, he said. District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu approved the proposal for pension disbursal in 10 mandals falling under DRDA cluster villages, he said. VOs would disburse pensions in Duvvur, Brahmamgari Matham, Tsundupalle, Badvel, Railway Kodur, Galiveedu, Vallur, Muddanur, Vontimitta and Vempalle mandals on January 10, in the presence of sarpanches, panchayat secretaries, ZPTC and MPTC members concerned, the project director said. Gramaikya Sanghams would set up more pension disbursal centres to ensure that the beneficiaries need not go to distant places. Pensions not taken on the 10th would be deposited in banks.
