Mayor launches drainage works

Works on 24-hour water supply also launched

KADAPA: Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy launched the first phase of the Rs. 67-crore underground drainage works at Dwarakanagar slum near Rythu Bazaar here on Wednesday.

Underground drainage pipelines would be laid in 25 slum areas in Kadapa at a cost of Rs. 3.50 crores in the first phase scheduled to be completed in six months, he said. Subsequently, drainage work would be undertaken in 70 more slums in the town, he added. Completion of underground drainage system would ensure sanitation and curb incidence of epidemics, he stated. He urged the contractor to complete the work expeditiously.

Later, the Mayor performed bhoomi pooja for 24-hour drinking water supply work at Buddayapalle SC Colony and Chinna Chowk ST Colony. Drinking water pipelines would be laid from Pennar river at a cost of Rs. 80 lakhs to augment supply of drinking water. Kadapa Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool, Municipal Corporation SE Prasada Rao, DEs Adinarayana and Ramalingam, AEs Vijay Kumar Reddy and Easwar Reddy, Congress president T. Sivasankar, and corporators were present.
