APCO set to notch higher turnover

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh State Handlooms Weavers' Cooperatives Society (APCO) is all set to achieve a record turnover of Rs.150 crores or 2006-07--Rs 38 crores higher than last year.

Textiles & Handlooms Minister G. Vinod told reporters here on Wednesday that the sales through 188 outlets and 30 showrooms all over the country had reached Rs. 83.8 crores.

He attributed APCO's turnaround to measures like wage hike for weavers, timely yarn supply, sale of home furnishings and bulk orders placed by State Government departments/agencies apart from the Railways. He said talks were on to supply handloom to airports and MPs too.

Mr Vinod said the festival advance granted by the State Government to its staff to purchase APCO clothes ensuring a business of Rs. 10 crores and orders placed by the TTD for supply of saris and dhotis for its mass marriage programme had come as shot in arm. Orders were also received from the Welfare Department for supply of dress material worth Rs 30 crores.
