MDMK general council members to file separate pleas
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
About 1,300 general council members of the MDMK will file separate petitions in the Madras High Court, seeking to implead them as a party to the proceedings relating to the removal of senior functionaries of the party and subsequent developments.
So far 268 separate petitions have been filed by district secretaries and general council members from North and South Chennai units of the party, besides members of the headquarters committee.
MDMK legal wing president G. Devadoss said on Wednesday that general council members from all the districts had given their sworn affidavits to the leadership. These would be filed in batches of about 150 a day.
Many petitions, including a civil suit against the removal of L. Ganesan and Gingee N. Ramachandran from party posts, and Mr. Vaiko's petition seeking to restrain the two leaders and their supporters from interfering with the possession and control of the party headquarters, are pending before the court.
Summons to Vaiko
Principal District Judge V. Periyakaruppiah has taken on file a criminal defamation complaint against Mr. Vaiko and issued summons to him.
The MDMK leader shall be present in court on February 15. The complaint was lodged by the City Public Prosecutor on behalf of the Government.
