Court reserves orders in Lavalin case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday asked the Government why it was "shirking" from ordering a CBI probe into the SNC Lavalin case, shortly before the court reserved its orders after a two-day hearing.

During the course of the hearing, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and Justice J.B. Koshy, asked the Government counsel "why should you shirk from CBI inquiry?."

Senior Supreme Court counsel C.S. Vaidyanathan, who is representing the Government, responded saying "we are not afraid of CBI inquiry. But files will prove the truth." He said the primary target was the CPI(M) State secretary,Pinarayi Vijayan, who was the then Power Minister and who had nothing to do in the case.

Senior Supreme Court counsel R.K. Anand, who is also representing the Government, pointed out that the CBI's credibility was in doubt and sought continuance of the Vigilance probe. The first PIL seeking CBI probe was filed in 2005, he sais. — PTI
