THENI (Tamil Nadu): Officials of Tamil Nadu and Kerala have conducted separate inspections at the Mullaperiyar dam site, a day after a portion of its parapet wall was found damaged. A Tamil Nadu team, including Uthamapalayam tashildar Murugavel, dam superintendent Sundarajan and other officials inspected the damaged portion of the dam on Tuesday. Theni District Collector Har Sahay Meena sent a report to the State Government after the team's visit, official sources said here on Wednesday. The Kerala team comprising Idukki RDO Vijayakumar and Kumili executive officer Vijayakumar Nair visited the dam site and inspected the damaged wall. The team would submit its report to Kerala Water Resources Minister N. K. Premachandran, they said. The parapet wall was found damaged on Monday. Meanwhile, MDMK leader Vaiko on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to deploy Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and para-military personnel to protect the Mullaperiyar dam following reports that its parapet wall was damaged. In a statement, he said the security in and around the dam should be entrusted with the Union Government without any further delay. He said the Kerala Government had produced five lakh graphic CDs, depicting ``imaginary horrible disaster'' in case the dam was damaged. They had been circulated in the state to cause panic and fear in the minds of people. Such action was anti-national, he said. PTI
