Be disciplined, drivers told

Road Safety Week celebrations under way in Hassan


  • `Spreading farm produce on roads can cause accidents'
  • KSRTC urged to keep buses in good condition

    Hassan: Deputy Commissioner K.H. Aswathnarayana Gowda has urged drivers to be patient and disciplined to prevent accidents.

    Road safety week

    Inaugurating the Road Safety Week celebrations organised at KSRTC Division in Hassan on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner advised people not to spread their agricultural produce on roads as it could lead to accidents. He said 90 per cent of the accidents was owing to drivers' neglect.

    Smoking and speaking on mobile phones or to others while driving would result in accidents, he said.

    The Road Safety Week was being celebrated to create awareness on traffic rules among the people. Schoolchildren would be educated on road safety through essay and other competitions, he said.

    Driving licence

    ZP Chief Executive Officer F.R. Jamaadar suggested that driving licence be issued according to age and advised teenagers against driving heavy vehicles.

    City Deputy Superintendent of Police Rudrappa said a moment of neglect by a driver would affect the lives of many people. "Be punctual and drive with a clear mind," he said.

    He also advised KSRTC mechanical section to keep the buses in good condition. "Beware of unmanned railway crossings. Behave politely with passengers," he said.

    RTO Shoba appealed to passengers to maintain cleanliness.

    Divisional Controller KSRTC B.C. Ganganna Gowda welcomed the gathering. Circle Inspector Girijesh, National Highway assistant executive engineer Somasekhar and KSRTC executive director P.R. Mahajan were present.

    Divisional Traffic Officer Ramesh proposed a vote of thanks.
