ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha-Changanassery Road Action Council convener Fr. Thomas Peelianikkal has said that the council and Kuttanad Vikasana Samithi will jointly stage a dharna at the Kainakary junction on Alappuzha-Changanassery Road (A-C Road) on January 5 from 9.30 a.m. to noon in protest against the poor condition of the road.Fr. Peelianikkal said the repair work on the road, which began two years ago as per the Kerala State Transport Project, was yet to be completed. Though the authorities had promised to upgrade the road, a State highway, to international standards its condition had deteriorated after the repair work began, said Fr. Peelianikkal. Footpaths, bus bays and waiting sheds were yet to be built, he said. The council convener added that driving through the potholed 3-km stretch between Pallathuruty and Pandarakkalam was posing problems to road users. Many accidents occurred on the A-C road. The authorities had ignored the demand for construction of protection walls and reflectors along the margins of the road, he added.
