Quality education need of the hour

`Education Meet' for headmasters held

Rajahmundry: Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju has said that the number of youth from rural areas is quite good in the Armed forces, where as those from urban areas is very less. This is because of urban youths' orientation towards IT, BPO firms or private sector.

Addressing the `Education Meet-07' for headmasters of East Godavari district on Wednesday arranged by the district Education Department and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, he said that the quality education was the need of the hour.

Role for NRIs

He said that teachers should take an initiative in moulding students and achieving getting good results. Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Rammohana Rao, who inaugurated the meeting, said that NRIs should take the initiative in sponsoring educational programmes in the State.

He asked headmasters to gather details of NRIs belonging to their village and hand it over to the district Collector.

In turn, the Collector would get in touch with them to solicit their participation in the development of infrastructure facilities in the villages. Minister for Animal Husbandry G. Surya Rao also spoke.

Collector M. Subrahmanyam said that special classes were being conducted for students who were lagging behind.

ZP Chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had agreed to sanction Rs. 5 crores for furniture in all ZP schools.

MLAs R. Suryaprakash Rao, K. Chittabbai, Tetali Rama Reddy, Dr. Bikkina Rama Reddy and Thota Gopalakrishna and Mayor M.S. Chakravarti spoke. District Education Officer P. Parvati presided over the programme.
