Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh leg-spinner Piyush Chawla will lead the India under-19 team in its tour of New Zealand and Malaysia in January - February. The BCCI Joint Secretary, Mohinder Pandove said eleven players who toured Pakistan and England have been retained and majority of them have played first class cricket. "The junior selection committee has identified six players who have done well in the one-day tournament and they will replace an equal number of players for the tri-series in Malaysia. The 2008 ICC under-19 World Cup is going to played in Malaysia and hence the decision to send six players for the tri-series featuring India, England and Malaysia,'' said Mr. Pandove. After the tour of New Zealand where the team will play three Tests and as many one-day internationals, Mumbai's Ajinkya Rahane, Omkar Gurav and Dhaval Kulkarni, Delhi's Gaurav Chabra and Karnataka's K.P. Appanna will be replaced by Jharkhand's Sourab Tiwary, Gujarat's Ishawar Chaudhary, Baroda's Swapnil Singh, Mumbai's Anup Revankar and Punjab's Sunny Sohl. Punjab's Amanpreet Singh will also be sent to Malaysia. He will replace one of three seamers Ishant Sharma, Yo Mahesh or Abu Nacheem. The team was selected on the basis of the performances in the BCCI Cooch Behar Trophy and the Vijay Hazare limited over tournament won by Central Zone here on Wednesday. The teams: For New Zealand: Piyush Chawla (capt.-U.P.), B. Sumanth (Andhra), Tanmay Srivastava (U.P.), Ravi Teja (Hyd), Ajinkya Rahane (Mum), Gaurav Chabra, Ishant Sharma (both Del), Sumeet Sharma (Pun), K.P. Appanna (Kar), Yomahesh (T.N.), Omkar Gurav (wk-Mum), Sarabjeet Singh (wk-Pun), Dhaval Kulkarni (Mum), Virat Kohli (Del), Abu Nacheem (Asm) and Ravindra Jadeja (Sau). For Malaysia: Sourab Tiwary for Chabra, Ishwar Chaudhary for Kulkarni, Swapnil for Appanna, Sunny Sohl for Rahane, Anup Revenkar for Gurav and Amanpreet Singh for either Ishant, Mahesh or Nacheem.
