Lignite-based power plant at Barmer likely

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited (RSMML) has signed a joint venture agreement with Raj West Power Limited to set up a lignite- based power plant of 1,000 MW capacity in Barmer district.

RSMML Managing Director Rajat Kumar Mishra said here on Tuesday that the plant would be installed with an investment of Rs. 5,000 crores and a new company, Barmer Lignite Mining Corporation, would be registered shortly for the purpose.

Mr. Mishra said this would be a new State Government enterprise, in which RSMML would have a partnership of 51 per cent. Lignite for the power plant will be supplied by RSMML from its Jalipa and Kapurdi mines in Barmer district.

This will be the second major lignite power project in the desert State.
