KARIMNAGAR: Government whip D. Sridhar accused the TDP of politicising the power crisis issue. "The government is committed to providing the assured seven-hour power supply to the farm sector by imposing cuts to the domestic sector and protect the standing crops,'' he maintained. He said that the farmers have taken up cultivation after a long gap because of good rainfall in the region. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the demand had increased considerably because of increase in area of cultivation following good rain and recharging of ground water in the Telangana region. In 2003 rabi season, the area of cultivation in Karimnagar district was only 83,956 hectares, but in the current rabi season it has increased to 1,73,550 hectares. He alleged that the TDP government failed to sign an agreement for gas supply for the gas-based power plants in the State during its regime.
