International stone fair inaugurated

CHENNAI:
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday inaugurated the Indian Monument Manufacturers Association's international Stone fair 2007 here and recalled the development of the industry in the State.
He detailed the growth of the sector and said it was now a Rs.700-crore industry.
He had been informed that the industry employed about 1.5 lakh people.
Consul General of Japan for Southern India, Yoshiaki Kodaki, released a souvenir and CD on the occasion.
IMMA president K. Subba Reddy detailed the activities of the organisation.
IMMA Stone Fair 2007 chairman R. Veeramani, seeking more concessions for the industry, said many units had shifted to other States.
The exhibition is on till January 7 at the Chennai Trade Centre.
