Ramadoss calls on Karunanidhi

CHENNAI:
Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss on Wednesday urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to impress upon the Centre to implement the 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes in institutions of higher education from the next academic year.
Dr. Ramadoss, who called on Mr. Karunanidhi at his residence, said the entrance tests for such institutions should not be held till the President gives assent to the OBC quota Bill. Mr. Karunanidhi assured him that he would write to Union Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh in this regard.
Mr. Ramadoss wanted that the proposed reservation in the private sector should also include the OBCs.
He urged the State Government to set up a medical college in Dharmapuri district, and make an announcement in the Budget regarding the same.
On Sri Lanka, Dr. Ramadoss said though the Centre had been responding to Mr. Karunanidhi's appeals, it had not shown as much interest in this issue as in respect of similar issues.
