BHUBANESWAR: In search of prosperity, a couple reportedly killed two of their sons on being misguided by a tantrik in Mayurbhanj district. The gruesome incident had occurred at Tilapada village under Kaptipada Police station in Mayurbhanj district, police said. The district police had taken the couple, Padmalochan Gan and Tuni, and the tantrik, Jagannath Tudu, into custody. The couple had killed two sons Harish (9) and Dipu (7). They have another two-month-old girl. ``Villagers came to know only when the foul smell emanated from the decomposed bodies. Police soon rushed to the village and arrested the couple on charges of culpable homicide,'' Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police Ravi Kant told The Hindu on Wednesday. He said the modus operandi of the `sacrifice' was not yet known. The younger son was killed first and then the elder one, police sources said. ``As per version of the couple, their sons were not keeping well. The children had stopped talking. They were performing special puja for last eight days and were told by the Pujari that the children would get rebirth,'' the SP said. Mr. Kant said the couple was not in good terms with other villagers. However, residents of Tilapada were being interrogated and a case has been registered in this connection.
