Course for schoolchildren

Training programme

for underprivileged

CommLab will be launching free classroom-cum-practical training for the underprivileged in flash, photoshop and dreamweaver for one month. Anyone with basic computer knowledge is eligible. Training commences on January 8. More details can be had on 27803080.

CELT workshop

The Centre for English Language Training (CELT) of OU College of Engineering will conduct a workshop on `Pronunciation skills/accent neutralisation' on January 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop involves training in phonetics, better communication and voice modulation.

Gyan Vani broadcast

Lessons for primary classes under `Vindam Nerchukundam', produced by Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, are being broadcast by Gyan Vani, Hyderabad regional centre of the Indira Gandhi National Open University on FM 107.6 MHz at 6.30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. Exclusive lessons for Urdu medium students are being made available on Tuesdays.

Ex-servicemen's plea

The Andhra Pradesh Ex-servicemen's Welfare Association has appealed to the Government to ensure that the land allotted to ex-servicemen at Jawaharnagar, in Ranga Reddy district, is handed over to them.

President A. Rangaiah Goud urged the Government to take steps for the welfare of ex-servicemen in accordance with the announcements made by Defence Minister A. K. Anthony and Minister of State M.M. Pallam Raju.

Survey to identify

illiterate persons

District Collector R.V. Chandravadan has asked mandal-level officials to conduct a survey in all the `bastis' in the district to identify illiterate persons. The survey is to be completed by January 10.

OU seminar

The Department of Sociology, Osmania University (OU), is conducting a seminar on `The future of social sciences and sociology in contemporary world' at ICSSR Hall, University Main library on Friday from 11 a.m. International Sociological Association vice-president Micheal Buruwy will take part in the seminar.
