Films to lend colour to city police celebrations

Real-life officers join actors in a short film series

CHENNAI:
The city police will celebrate its 150th year this week. It was founded in 1856.
The screening of seven short films will add colour to the occasion. The series, called "Kaavalar namma sevegar" (Police as your [public] servants), explains how the public can help the police in curbing unlawful activities. Real-life officers and personnel join professional actors in this 26-minute series.
Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, Vikram, Arjun, Asin, Suriya and `Jayem' Ravi make appearances in between each film, requesting the public to aid the police.
The cast includes Nasser and senior IPS officers. Chief Minister M. Karunandhi appears in the beginning for an introductory remark. He watched the films on Tuesday. He changed the name from "Kaavalar ungal sevagar" to "Kaavalar namma sevagar" and appreciated the effort.
Producers Abirami Ramanathan and Nallammai Ramanathanthe films will be screened for the public after government approval. .
Vettri has handled the camera, Vairamuthu has written the lyrics and Mani Sharma has scored the music. The story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by P. Ilavarasan.
