Hospital staff protest

NEW DELHI: Group C and D employees of Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital held a demonstration in front of the office of the Principal and Medical Superintendent of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals here on Wednesday in protest against award of contract to Sulabh International for sanitation services in the hospital.

According to a Kalawati Hospital Workers' Union release, due to the shortage of group D staff, basic services like cleaning and sweeping have been affected in the hospital.

Held for robbery

NEW DELHI: Two minors have been arrested by the North Delhi police for allegedly robbing a man of his wallet and a mobile phone.

According to the police, Pradeep Kumar raised an alarm when the two boys riding a motorcycle robbed him of his phone and wallet on Tuesday afternoon. Head Constable Rajveer of Civil Lines police station, who was on patrolling duty, chased the suspects and arrested them with the help of the public. The police recovered the mobile phone and Rs. 220 from the accused.

Pirated books

NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested by the East Delhi police for allegedly printing and selling pirated books of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The police claim to have recovered pirated books worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs from the accused.

According to the police, CBSE Secretary Vinit Joshi had lodged a complaint with Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Chaudhary about certain books being printed and sold illegally. The police carried out a raid at the house of the suspects in Preet Vihar on Tuesday and arrested Dev Kumar Gupta and Nitin Verma.

Seven injured

NEW DELHI: Seven persons, including four women, were injured when they were hit by a speeding Santro car at Dilshad Garden in North-East Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the police, the mishap took place around noon when Madhu, who was driving the Santro Car allegedly in an inebriated state, first hit a motorcycle parked in O Block. Later he hit a group of elderly people sitting outside their house basking in the sun. A 37-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, Radhe Shyam, was also injured.

Robbery solved

NEW DELHI: In a lucky break for the police, the victims of a robbery happened to identify the suspects about a month after the incident and helped the police in getting them arrested. The police have recovered Rs. 2,000 in cash, a mobile phone and a gold ring from the accused. According to the police, Som Nath Mukherjee of Baljeet Nagar in West Delhi had hired a rickshaw to go to the Metro station. The rickshaw puller, later identified as Ajay, took a different route and stopped the rickshaw on some pretext. A few minutes later, Ajay returned with three more persons and robbed Mr. Mukherjee of Rs. 5,000, his mobile phone and his gold ring. On Tuesday, Mr. Mukherjee along with a friend spotted Ajay and his friends. They engaged the four men in a conversation and raised an alarm on spotting a police patrol team.
