NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party secretary Vijay Goel on Wednesday expressed apprehension that the Delhi Government was planning to postpone the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi under the garb of increasing the number of wards in the Corporation. Mr. Goel said the Delhi State Election Commissioner S.P. Marwah had repeatedly stated that under the Constitution the elections cannot be postponed. Mr. Goel said the Congress Government could still postpone them on two grounds. One, if the SEC does not issue notification for this election. Moreover, he added, the new Corporation should be constituted before April 7, when its current term comes to an end, and the new elections should be declared 27 days prior to that.
