Coimbatore: An international conference on Innovative Technologies and Education for the Deaf is scheduled from January 5 to 7 at the Indian Medicals Association (IMA) auditorium here. District Collector Neeraj Mittal will inaugurate the conference. Alok Kejriwal, Chairman, India Deaf Expo 2007, told reporters that the event would be the first of its kind in the country organised by the deaf community themselves, with support from Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi and Deaf Leaders, Coimbatore. The conference aims to provide a platform for educators, researchers, parents of deaf children, teachers, social workers, speech therapists, audiologists, psychologists, linguists and other professionals to share their knowledge and expertise. About 300 delegates, including 20 foreign delegates, are expected to attend the conference. The organisers have decided to entertain the guests each evening by organising cultural programmes, including mime, drama and dance - all related to deaf and hard of hearing.
