News Analysis
A Guardian article "A fact that is conveniently forgotten" (Op-Ed, January 2, 2007) stated that "Saddam's lynching might send a shiver down the spines of the Arab elites", which led to doubts. While the Oxford English Dictionary says that to lynch (of a group of people) is to kill (someone) for an alleged offence without legal trial, especially by hanging, its use in the article is not wrong. The writer has called the whole trial as being "blatantly rigged". Hence the end result amounted to Saddam being lynched. It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
