Management festival to focus on city's problems

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Management schools conduct festivals on a regular basis. The students of Bhavan Marshall MBA programme are the next to hold one such event. They will organise a unique three-day national management festival Evigna '07 from January 10.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, N.S. Vishwanath, resident director (Academics), Bhavan Marshall MBA programme, said the theme of the festival was "Bengalooru - fast forward" and the events to be organised would highlight problems faced by the city and find solutions.

He said the students, who chose the concept, wanted to take up societal issues to gain experience beyond the classroom. "Even the name has a message; it means no barriers. The students will take up problems of the city and help the Government find viable solutions," he said.

Ramachandra Akkihal, director of the programme, said that the students had learnt a lot about networking, leadership and team spirit by working together and organising the festival. "A lot of effort has gone into this. Management students in India are much ahead of those in the U.S. in this aspect," he said

K. Jairaj, Commissioner, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, would inaugurate the festival on January 10, while David T. Hopper, Consul General, US Consulate, Chennai, and Soumitra Sana, Chairman, Indo-American Chambers of Commerce, would be chief guests. M.B. Jayaram, general manager, Corporate Communications, Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd.; Devi Shetty, chairman, Narayana Hrudayalaya; and J.W. Lobo, regional director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, would participate in the festival.

Dr. Vishwanath said the three-day festival would be marked by a poets' meet, musical evening, painters' camp and photography exhibition. Functional films on management would be screened.

H.N. Suresh, director (Programme and Projects), said that the festival had enrichment as the main focus. Knowledge sessions on health, safety and infrastructure would be presented. As many as 35 colleges have confirmed their participation in the festival, of which seven were from other States.
