ANANTAPUR: To create awareness among people on the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme to be held on January 7, the district administration has decided to conduct awareness rallies by schoolchildren in all villages on January 5 and 6.

In a meeting of the task force committee on pulse polio held on Wednesday, District Medical and Health Officer Y. Swaroop Kumar Reddy stated that all voluntary organisations were being involved in the exercise.

Women's self-help groups, teachers, anganwadi workers, Rajiv Yuvashakti groups, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and officials were urged to participate in the rallies.

The DM & HO stated that there were 4,30,525 children in the district in the targeted age group.

To cover the entire children 3,596 pulse polio centres were being set up and each centre manned by four health staff.
