Kalyanamastu is TTD's new mission to save Hindu traditions and alleviate economic burden

FOREVER TOGETHER: Couples posing for a group photograph after their wedding performed in the presence of TTD Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy on his arrival at the TTD Kalyana Mandapam in Nizamabad on Thursday.

NIZAMABAD: Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy has said preparations are on to conduct mass marriages in all TTD Kalyana Mandapams across the State with Devasthanam expenditure on February 22 morning.

On that one day, nearly 50,000 marriages would be performed and during the entire year, one lakh would be conducted, he said while addressing a press conference here on Thursday.

The TTD will arrange for the `mangalasutram', new clothes for brides and bridegrooms and feast for invitees attending weddings from both sides.

The marriages will be performed amid the chanting of Veda mantras by Vedic pandits. All those who believe in Hindu religion and want to get married as per the Hindu Samskriti (tradition) were eligible.

In its attempt to protect Hindu religion and traditions, the TTD board had decided to embark on this mission. This would bail out many families which were in deep economic crisis, unable to perform marriages for their sons and daughters, he said.

Expenditure

The board would have to spend between Rs.40 to Rs.50 crores and 1.50 quintal of gold for this mega project, he said. The marriages will be conducted in all constituencies wherever TTD Kalyana Mandapams were available and in important temples where such mandapams did not exist.

"We are touring all districts to create awareness among people about mass marriages.

Right from the Collector down to the village secretary anyone can provide information and other details regarding marriages", he said and appealed to people to make use of this opportunity. Mr. Reddy said the board will sanction Rs.25 lakhs to each district to renovate dilapidating Hindu temples every year.

Similarly, an amount of Rs.2000 per annum will be sanctioned to each temple for "dhoopa, deepa, naivedyam".
