Sivagangai advances

Virudhunagar: Sivagangai entered the quarterfinals of the 48th State senior inter-district football championship with a 3-0 win over Krishnagiri at the Virudhunagar District Stadium on Thursday.

Somasundaram (28th minute), S. Lakshmanan (43rd) and Manikandan (90th) scored.

Pudukotaai beat Cuddalore 3-2 in a penalty shootout, after the teams were locked goalless at the regulation time.

In the penalty shootout Arul, Ravichandran and John Rock Gilbert scored for Pudukottai. Ramesh and Vadivel Murugan were on target for Cuddalore.

In yet another first round match, a hat-trick by V. Subramanian for Erode went in vain as Vellore beat Erode 4-3. Jegadeesan, Kumaran, Vinothkumar (2) scored for the winner.

Inter-district cricket

The third annual India cements-Mahaveer Chand memorial trophy inter-district under-13 cricket tournament will be organised by Tirunelveli District Cricket Association at Sankarnagar from January 12 to 17. For details, conatct Babu Abiseharaj at 94427 25341.
