Lorries not to be allowed on Cauvery bridge

TIRUCHI: The district administration has announced that lorries would not be permitted to run on the Cauvery bridge on the Musiri - Kulithalai Road from Thursday in order to carry out repair works on the bridge.

The vehicles coming from Musiri, Thuraiyur and Perambalur should take an alternate route through Thottiyam, Kattuputhur, Velur and Paramathi. Vehicles from Perambalur and Tiruchi, which used to pass through the bridge, should proceed on the Tiruchi - Karur National Highway via Pettavaithalai and Kulithalai.

Temporary arrangement

The Collector, Ashish Vachhani, while appealing to the public and lorry owners to cooperate with the temporary arrangement, said that steps had been taken to expedite the repair works on a war footing.

He held a meeting here in which officials from State and National Highways, Transport Department and office bearers of lorry owners' association participated, a press release said.
