KOLKATA: Last year's runner-up Kerala was pipped at the post by Maharashtra by two last minute goals. Maharashtra won 17-15 in the final group B league match in the 35th National handball championship for women here on Thursday. The win helped Maharashtra top the group. There was a tie in group C as Punjab and Delhi drew the concluding match 15-15 the first tied match of the tournament to remain locked on the top with nine points each. However, Punjab became the group winner, having scored more goals (101) as compared to Delhi (82). The results: Group A: Chandigarh 21 bt Uttaranchal 3; Railway 28 bt Karnataka 9; Haryana 12 bt Uttaranchal 3; Jammu & Kashmir 13 bt Chandigarh 11. Group B: Bengal 12 bt Tamil Nadu 1; Maharashtra 17 bt Kerala 15; Bengal 11 bt Himachal Pradesh 6; Orissa 3 bt Tamil Nadu 1. Group C: Punjab 20 bt Assam 6; Delhi 17 bt Gujarat 2; Andhra Pradesh 17 bt Gujarat 9; Delhi 15 drew with Punjab 15.
