Naidu makes light of land surrender

Special Correspondent

Congress must discuss YSR's `land grabbing' issue, says TDP chief

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu made light of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's latest surrender of 997 acres in Kadapa district and wanted the Congress party's brainstorming session to discuss the "large scale land grabbing by Dr. Reddy".

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Naidu alleged that Dr. Reddy had no option but to surrender as he and his family members were holding the land in violation of land ceiling and other laws, the latest being the one relating to income tax.

In fact, it was time for Dr. Reddy to voluntarily declare how much more land he and his family members owned, their number and the type of land instead of doing it in phases, he said. This was because Dr. Reddy had been changing versions frequently both inside and outside the Assembly. The extent of land he was surrendering from YSR Estate at Idupulapaya in Kadapa was changed from 700 acres to 618 acres and then to 310 acres.

And now, Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao was saying the land surrendered was not assigned but private.

Mr. Naidu took exception to the way AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said he had to protect the Rajasekhara Reddy Government at any cost.
