HYDERABAD: The Congress high command's decision to stick to its position on constituting a second States' Reorganisation Commission (SRC) muffled to some extent pro-Telangana voices among party leaders here on Thursday. Party MPs Madhu Yashki Goud and V. Hanumanth Rao settled for seeking an `early solution' to the problem at the APCC's `Medho Madhanam' (brainstorming session) after AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh reiterated the party's commitment to the SRC. Keeping the issue on the backburner indefinitely might harm party's interest as Telangana sentiment was getting strengthened, they reportedly said. Their demand found a favourable response from a separate Andhra protagonist and Narsapur MP Chegondi Harirama Jogaiah, who observed that any delay in resolving the issue could damage the party's prospects in future. There were some who opposed division of the State like senior leader Gade Venkat Reddy, APSRTC Chairman Gone Prakash Rao and B. Veda Vyas, MLA, who criticised the demand for reorganisation of the State and said development of all regions was the correct solution to meet regional aspirations. Though APCC president K. Keshava Rao urged delegates to air their views on issues like Jala Yagnam, land acquisition and distribution, etc, speakers chose to delve largely on two issues Telangana and Chief Minister's decision to surrender land.
Cabinet expansion
Two other seniors Mr. Hanumantha Rao and V. Purushottam Rao, MLA, urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to go for Cabinet expansion without further delay, it is learnt. Later at a press briefing, Dr. Rao declined to comment when asked whether the Telangana issue dominated the proceedings. "We are listening to all voices. The party will react on Friday. There is a general endorsement of the party stand on second SRC," he added.
