Students urged to acquire soft skills

Staff Reporter

  • Cultural fest being organised by Hindu College
  • Classical dance and music competitions to be held today

GUNTUR: A two-day inter-collegiate cultural festival organised by Lalitha Kala Samithi of Hindu College on its campus got off to a colourful start with hundreds of students from many colleges in the Acharya Nagarjuna University area participating in it.

University registrar K. Viyyanna Rao formally declared open the festivities by giving a call to students to improve their expressive skills along with communication skills while pursuing their academic courses, as degrees alone would not fetch them good jobs.

"There should be something more than your competitor in you for a company to select you after you come out the university or college, so need a winning edge skill that can be honed in the college by imparting soft skills," he observed.

Describing the quiz, debating, and fine art competitions as an avenue for students to come out of their shell and display their hidden talent to the world, he said it would inculcate a sense of self-confidence among them to face bigger challenges later on. The college would improve its credibility among employers by organising such events, opined.

    Good participation

Students enthusiastically participated in painting, quiz, essay writing and debating competitions and these events would continue on Friday also. Solo dance, mime, classical dance and music competitions would be held on Friday, the organisers said.

Presiding over the inaugural meeting, college vice-president Cheruvu Suryanarayana Murthy said students participating in such festivals would gain good recognition in society.
