Teachers stage dharna

Special Correspondent

ONGOLE: Teachers staged dharna near Prakasam Bhavan here on Thursday to achieve their demands. Earlier, they took out a rally from PVR High School to Prakasam Bhavan through the main streets raising slogans under the aegis of Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organisations (JACTO).

They demanded that the Government obtain President's consent for implementing GO Nos 95 and 96 to promote, transfer and appoint teachers. They sought two notional increments for apprentice teachers and implementation of automatic advancement scheme for them. Services of special vidya volunteers should be recognised from March 2003 and old pension scheme should be implemented for them.

Vacant posts in municipal and aided schools should be filled and they should be provided with facilities like provident fund and medical reimbursement, they said.

Leaders belonging to several organisations took part in the agitation.
