HYDERABAD: For the convenience of passengers travelling for Sankranti festival, the Ranga Reddy region of RTC will run 2,538 special buses over a period of nine days, beginning Saturday. To control the heavy rush between January 11 and 14, the RTC will ply 260 buses on January 11, more than 500 buses on January 12 and 13, and 300 buses on January 14, S. Nagaraju, Regional Manager, Ranga Reddy Region of RTC, told reporters on Thursday. Three computerised enquiry centres will be operational during the period at MGBS and one at Old CBS. In addition, three booking counters, including one for women, have also been set up at MGBS. Two current booking counters will also be available at Old CBS.

Mr. Nagaraju said all special and current buses going to Vijayawada and to places beyond the city in Krishna district, East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Guntur will start from the Old CBS hangar between January 11 and 14. For the convenience of passengers, tickets of special buses will carry information about the boarding point, as Old CBS and `Special' will be printed. Among other officials, the RTC has appointed 66 additional security guards for special buses. The passenger turnout is expected to go up to 1 lakh this year, Mr. Nagaraju said.
