Man acquitted of charges

New Delhi: A Delhi court has acquitted a man of the charge of kidnapping and raping a minor about one and half years ago as the prosecution failed to produce the victim for recording her testimony.

"As the prosecutrix (girl) failed to appear and had not deposed anything against the accused, so it can be safely said that prosecution had failed to prove its case against the accused," Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna said, discharging Vishal of Rohini locality of Delhi. One Chander Prakash lodged a complaint on June 15, 2005 alleging Vishal, who was a tenant in his house, had kidnapped his 14-year-old daughter. The police arrested the accused on October 16, 2005 and rescued the girl. As the court started examination of prosecution witnesses, it noted that the victim failed to appear on three dates while the IO also stated that the whereabouts of the girl were not known. -- PTI
