Children hold a protest march in support of Noida victims

The protesters demand a CBI probe into the macabre killings

NEW DELHI: A silent protest was organised here in the Capital on Thursday against the killings of little children of Nithari village in Noida. A large number of children, including some who had gone missing but were later reunited with their families, assembled at Raj Ghat in the afternoon to pay homage to the victims of Nithari. The protest was organised by Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

Wearing black ribbons and holding placards, the protesters demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the killings. They also called for an inquiry commission under the direction of the Supreme Court to investigate the cases of missing children across the country. "It should come out with a time-bound report on the involvement of police officers in such cases," they demanded.

They pointed out that according to the National Human Rights Commission's report on trafficking about 45,000 children go missing every year of whom about 11,000 remain untraced.

Asking the Government to bring out a white paper on the issue, the BBA alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Government was trying to shield senior officials and individuals who had helped the main culprit in the past.

They also sought demolition of the house of the accused in Noida and erection of a memorial in its place.

BBA chairperson Kailash Satyarthi said: "The Nithari episode is a matter of national shame and the biggest stigma on the face of our society and polity."

He called upon civil society to observe January 25 as "Nithari Day" to condemn the killings and pay tributes to the victims.
