CHENNAI: Nrityalaya, a school of Indian classical Odissi dance, Maryland, performed a multimedia dance ballet on Mahatma Gandhi depicting his ideology of peace.

Director Chitra Krishnamurthi, who danced along with her students, said Gandhiji's life was his message.

"Through the ballet `Mahatma Gandhi' we have conveyed his messages of love, truth, unity and peace through non-violence. Although Gandhiji will not appear as a dancer before you, I hope you will feel his presence among us".

Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti presided over the function. "I felt that the show was memorable as each and every dancer has put in her best to make it a memorable evening for all of us." Lakshmi Krishnamurthy felicitated the dancers and particularly Ms. Krishnamurthi for her devotion to the Gandhian ideals. "It was a laudable piece of work with so many elements combined with the excellent choreography of Ms. Krishnamurthi. Much effort has been put into the work and her art has come out in the best form."
