CHENNAI : In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by pouring kerosene and setting himself ablaze. He was admitted with burns to a hospital, where he died on Thursday. Police said that Prem Anand of Desikanandapuram in Vyasarpadi was studying in Standard IV in a local school. He was living with his grandmother Kothainayagi, who is working as a casual worker in the area. On Wednesday night, when there was nobody at home, the boy, who was watching television, reportedly poured kerosene and set himself afire. A shocked neighbour raised an alarm and within minutes Prem Anand was rushed to Stanley Hospital. Despite the treatment, the boy died in the wee hours. Vyasarpadi police have registered a case of suicide. Further investigation is on.
