Armed gang attack: man injured

Thiruvananthapuram: An armed gang attacked and injured the cashier of a fast food joint at Vellayambalam late on Thursday night. The police identified the injured as Joseph, alias Saji, of Kannur. An official said Saji was attacked for refusing to forego a bill of Rs.69 incurred by one of the gang members. He has been admitted to Medical College Hospital in a serious condition.

Temple theft: one held

The rural police have arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with a series of recent thefts from places of religious worship, mostly temples, in Attingal sub-division. The police identified the accused as Rajappan of Kadhinamkulam. A large amount of the loot was recovered on the basis of Rajappan's confessional statement.

Held on cheating charge

The police have arrested a 52-year-old man on the charge of cheating significant amounts of money from a section of non-resident Indians in the State by posing as a bank officer. Circle Inspector (CI) M. Radhakrishnan Nair identified the accused as Babu. He said the accused approached NRI families by promising loans up to Rs.50 lakh from nationalised banks on zero security and no collateral. The CI said the accused collected up to Rs.10,000 as processing charge from his "clients."
