Rupee edges down

MUMBAI: The rupee on Friday closed marginally lower against the U.S. currency due to firm dollar against euro and fresh dollar demand from banks. A rise in inflation rate also dampened rupee sentiment, dealers said.

In active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian currency started steady at 44.27/29 a dollar and after moving in a wide range of 44.24 and 44.34, closed at 44.3050/3150, lower than Thursday's close of 44.27/29.
