Kathakali maestro passes away
Kolkata:
Eminent Kathakali exponent Govindan Kutty died here on Friday morning.
Kutty (79), who was suffering from lung cancer, breathed his last at the Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital, his family said.
He is survived by his wife, dancer Thankamani Kutty, and three sons.
Born in Palakkad district of Kerala on November 13, 1927, Govindan Kutty had performed in different parts of the world.
He came to Kolkata in July 1955 and joined as principal of "Nritya Kairalee," an institute for South Indian classical dances run by the Calcutta Malayalee Samajam.
Govindan Kutty was conferred the "Uday Shankar Puraskar" by the West Bengal Government in 2005 and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy had awarded him with the "Kala Prathibha Puraskaram." &
