PALAKKAD: The State office-bearers meeting of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), which began here on Friday, in a resolution has demanded the resignation of Education Minister M.A. Baby in the wake of the annulment of key provisions of the professional colleges Act by the Kerala High Court. The resolution moved by BJP State general secretary M.T. Ramesh and others said the key provisions of the Act was annulled owing to the loopholes in it. It was a result of the communal appeasement stand taken by Mr. Baby, he said. The resolution alleged that Mr. Baby openly opposed communalism but indirectly helped private managements with communal leanings. State President P.K. Krishnadas said the party would launch a mass agitation against the "anti-people policies" of both the Central and State Governments. The details would be finalised at the State committee meeting scheduled to begin on Saturday. It would discuss key issues pertaining to the SNC Lavalin scam, KSTP project, ADB loan and self-financing colleges. The agitations would focus on the key issues, he said. The former State presidents and senior leaders O. Rajagopal, K. Raman Pillai and P.S. Sreedharan Pillai did not attend the meeting. Two district co-ordinators V.N. Unni and Purushothaman also failed to turn up for the meeting. However, the BJP State president said that the leaders had communicated their inability to attend the meeting.
