  • Biotechnology opens up new vistas for research

VIJAYAWADA : Speakers at a State-level student seminar on `Applications of physics in medicine' organised by the Department of Physics of Andhra Loyola College (ALC) on Friday, advised science students to master the fundamentals of their respective subjects. They pointed out that effective application of knowledge and success in the field of science would be possible only when the basics were strong.

President of the Indian Academy of Paediatricians (Krishna district unit) Y. Sai Kishore said the principles of physics had everything to do with the physiology of a human body and it was all the more relevant in diagnostics. He said medical students would realise how important physics would be in the very first year of their joining any medical college.

"I used to think whether physics was necessary in Intermediate curriculum. When I joined MBBS, the realisation dawned on me. It is simply an inalienable part of medicine," Dr. Kishore said. The discovery of X-rays, MRI and other principles of physics led to revolutionary changes in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
