HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Polit Bureau on Friday sought prosecution of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for holding large extents of assigned lands meant for the poor, in violation of seven different laws.
Focus to continue
Briefing presspersons about the Polit Bureau meeting here TDP leaders Y. Ramakrishnudu, N. Janardhana Reddy and K. Srihari said the party would continue to focus on the land issue and hold protest demonstrations in all district headquarters on January 12. The meeting felt that as the Opposition party, the TDP could not ignore the way a person holding such a high post had violated land reforms, assigned lands, forest and endowment laws. No other Chief Minister in the history of the State had such large chunks of land that should actually go to the poor. "To escape punishment, he went on to change the law relating to the assigned lands," they alleged and sought a white paper on all his landholdings. Other issues discussed included power crisis, price rise, outcome of byelections in Karimnagar and Bobbili, enhancing the capacity of Pothireddypadu head regulator, Indiramma housing programme, execution of Saddam Hussein and organisational elections. Mr. Ramakrishnudu sought to play down the diverse views on Karimnagar byelection results and contended that there was no change in the party's policy on integrated State taken at the last `Mahanadu'.
