Interest rates revised

BANGALORE: Central Bank of India has revised interest rates on NRE and foreign currency non-resident (B) deposits across all maturities, from January 1. A release said the interest rates on NRE Time Deposit for the term between one year and two years have been increased from 6.24 per cent to 6.33 per cent, for a term between two years and less than three years, the interest rates have been revised from 6 per cent to 6.16 per cent. For term deposits of three years and above, the interest rates have been increased from 5.91 per cent to 6.08 per cent. — Staff Reporter

Bangalore: A recruitment drive for airmen will be held in Mangalore Town Hall on January 12, January 14 and January 16. Probe sought

BANGALORE: All India Mahila Sanskritik Sanghathan has demanded a judicial inquiry into the serial killings of more than 38 children allegedly committed by a businessman in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. In a release, it has said that more shocking was the fact that even after receiving repeated complaints from the parents, the police had refused to act. The victims of the gruesome incident belonged to poor and migrant families, it said and demanded punishment to the guilty. — Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Human Rights Council has welcomed the announcement of Home Minister M.P. Prakash regarding the establishment of State Human Rights Commission before the commencement of the next legislature session. In a release, council president S.K. Mastakabhisheka

Bangalore: The Mahamastakabhisheka of Bahubali will be held at Dharmasthala for a week from January 28. According to a press release here on Friday, as part of this celebration, several unique events have been planned. An exhibition of coins, notes, stamps and books would be held. Folk dance, Bharatanatyam, magic show, yakshagana and other cultural programmes have been organised.

`Historic' move

Belgaum: Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge Shashikant A. Naik has described as "historic" the move of the Janata Dal(S)-BJP Government to waive crop loan of farmers and ban arrack. In a release here on Friday, he said no Government in the past had taken such a bold decision to ban arrack. Delay in bus passes

BELGAUM: The Belgaum District Rural Physically Handicapped Development Society has regretted the delay on the part of Karntaka State Road Transport Corporations in renewing subsidised bus passes to be issued to physically challenged persons. This had adversely affected physically challenged school and college going students. Therefore, the Government should direct the KSRTC to start renewing the passes without further delay, said president of the Society, Neminath T. Bastwad.

Cases booked

HUBLI: Continuing its drive against vehicle owners violating traffic regulations, Hubli-Dharwad Police have booked sixty cases against drivers for drunken driving on Thursday night. The Police Commissioner in a release has informed that the drive against drunken driving will continue and anybody driving vehicles in a drunken state after 10 p.m. will be penalised.

Yuavajana Mela

SIRSI: Sirsi taluk-level `Yuvajana Mela-2006' will be held at Dasanakoppa near here on January 6 and 7 at the premises of Higher Primary School Dasanakoppa in Badangod Gram Panchayat under the auspices of taluk Youth and Sports department, zilla panchayat, gram panchayat and Badanngod Gram Panchayat.
