Proddatur civic chief, vice-chief offer to quit if charges are proved Proddatur civic chief, vice-chief offer to quit if charges are proved

  • They swear by God at Vinayaka temple in Chittoor
  • Former Municipal Chairman accused of anti-party activities

KADAPA: Proddatur Municipal Chairperson E. Malleswari and former in-charge Municipal Chairman R. Prasada Reddy, both of Congress, levelled charges of corruption against one another on Friday.

Besides levelling accusations at different press conferences, they promised to swear by God at Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple at Kanipakam in Chittoor district. Ms. Malleswari, Vice-Chairman V.S. Mukthiar, PCC member E.V. Sudhakar Reddy, Congress official spokesman Ameer Basha and some other Congress leaders claimed that they had never misused even a pie of municipal funds in the last 15 months.

The civic chief, vice-chief and others offered to quit politics if anyone proved that they had resorted to graft. On the other hand, they maintained that they would prove corrupt actions of Mr. Prasada Reddy and accused him of resorting to anti-party activities. Citing some instances, they alleged that Mr. Reddy had amassed wealth as in charge civic chief in 2005.

    YSR to be apprised

Mr. Mukthiar said complaints would be sent to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, DCC president A. Amarnath Reddy and town Congress president.

Asserting that he too was prepared to swear by god at Kanipakam temple, Mr. Prasada Reddy expressed discontent at the attitude of some Congress leaders of Proddatur. Stating that he had never criticised Congress, he demanded allotment of funds for 30 per cent of developmental works.
