B.Ed college lists

HYDERABAD: The last date for submission of lists of teaching staff engaged for D. Ed courses by private B. Ed colleges in the State, to the Director, State Council of Educational Research & Training, has been extended till February 5. The lists have been sought from these colleges as the Director of SCERT had been asked to issue approval to the teaching staff employed by them for the course. The D. Ed course had been reconsidered by the NCERT. - Special Correspondent

Nominated

HYDERABAD: K. Narasimha Murthy has been nominated to the Board of Supervision, National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD), Mumbai, as an expert on cooperative banks. He was earlier Chairman of the expert committee on urban cooperative banks in Andhra Pradesh, a Trustee of UTI and Director of UTI Bank Ltd. - Special Correspondent

Strike in RRBs total

Hyderabad: The one-day strike in all 1,200 branches and regional and head offices of five regional rural banks in the State was total, as they remained closed in response to a call by the Joint Forum of Grameen Banks' Unions to press several demands.

They include parity in allowances as in commercial banks, parity of pension and retirement benefits, restoration of compassionate appointments and business-linked recruitment and promotions. - Spcial Correspondent

Scholarships

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Labour Welfare Board has invited applications seeking scholarships from employees of those working in shops and establishments, factories, motor transport undertakings, cooperative societies and charitable and other trusts who contribute to the Andhra Pradesh Labour Welfare Fund. Prescribed forms may be obtained from offices of the Labour department and should be submitted on or before February 15. - Staff Reporter

Tribunal vacation

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal will remain closed for Sankranti vacation from January 4 to 12. Applications of urgent nature only would be placed for admission and interim orders before the vacation bench on January 10, 10.30 a.m. with M.V. Chalapathi Rao, Assistant Registrar, as Vacation Officer. Notices of urgent nature should be given to Mr. Rao on or before 1.30 p.m. on January 9. - Staff Reporter

Gunman arrested

KADAPA: The Kondapuram police arrested an ex-serviceman of Maharashtra Dharamraj Singh, working as a private gunman of TDP leader Ramesh Reddy of Chintakunta village in Muddanur mandal and seized a rifle and 11 cartridges from him. The unlicensed rifle was seized, according to Kondapuram circle inspector J. Thirupal Raju. However, Mr. Reddy asserted that his gunman secured licence for his rifle in 1992 and was renewing it promptly. - Staff Reporter

Rasta roko staged

NALGONDA : The BJP on Friday staged a rasta roko on Narketpally-Addanki road at Charlapally in protest against the Congress high command's insistence for the appointment of the second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC).

BJP and BJYM activists squatted on the road raising slogans against the Congress for "its dilly-dallying tactics on separate Telangana."-Staff Reporter

Paediatric award

NIZAMABAD : Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Nizamabad chapter has been selected for the prestigious national Paediatric Surgeons' award for the year 2006. The Indian National Paediatric Association announces this award every year to one chapter which renders yeoman service in social and medical fields.

For the Nizamabad chapter, this is the second time to have bagged this award. First time it secured the award in 2004.-Staff Reporter

Contract health workers demand pay

TIRUPATI: The 60-odd health and sanitary staff working on contract basis in the Government-SVRR hospital have demanded immediate payment of salaries for the last three months. KURNOOL: Kurnool Medical College will honour five old students who excelled in the international field of medicine. Chairman of KMC Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee and Collector M. Red sanders seized

KADAPA: Porumamilla Forest Range Officer Ravindra Reddy and staff seized 40 red sander logs being transported in a lorry near Itukalapadu in Porumamilla mandal late on Thursday night. The red sander logs, worth about Rs. 1 lakh, were covered by plantains. - Staff Reporter

KADAPA: A Dalit Samineni Gangaiah (70) was allegedly hacked to death by another Dalit Allam Jayaram (30) in Kasturirajugaripalle Harijanawada in Lakkireddipalle mandal on Friday owing to previous enimity. The Lakkireddipalle police registered a case. - Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: MLA M.A. Gafoor mooted a proposal for a second agriculture market yard. He met Commissioner for Marketing Yard D. Srinivasulu, who was here on Friday and explained the need for acquiring site for the yard. suspended in Kadapa

KADAPA: Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy on Friday suspended two clerks of Municipal Corporation education wing for reportedly abstaining from duty. The orders were issued during a surprise visit the Mayor conducted to various sections in Kadapa Municipal Corporation. Mr. Ravindranath Reddy switched off air-conditioners on the premises and exhorted officials and employees to conserve power. - Staff Reporter

SFI opposes private varsities

ELURU: The Student Federation of India (SFI) on Friday expressed its opposition to the entry of private universities into the State. Addressing a gathering of students, SFI district secretary B.V. Varma said the State Government was preparing ground to allow private universities in the light of recommendations made by the Knowledge Commission appointed by the Central Government. He apprehended that the students with poor economic and social background would be deprived of an opportunity to pursue higher education if private universities were allowed. — Staff Reporter

Jailed for extortion

ELURU: Additional Assistant Sessions Judge V.R.K. Krupasagar on Friday sentenced a history-sheeter to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment for indulging in extortions from traders at knifepoint on the eve of Sankranti festival last year.

According to the prosecution, Bandi Ramanadham, a resident of Mastan Manyam colony on the city outskirts, was creating terror among the traders in Ramachandraraopet area by brandishing knife for extortions. I-Town police arrested him . — Staff Reporter

`Save power' poster

VIZIANAGARAM: Collector B. Kishore on Friday released a poster suggesting tips on how to save power in government offices.
