ART THAT SPEAKS: A work by Raj Shankar Jha

NEW DELHI: Ten artists from across the country are participating in a weeklong exhibition of painting and sculpture at the All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society on Rafi Marg here. Titled "Rhythm of Life", the exhibition showcasing thought-provoking works ends this Sunday.

Delhi-based artist Jiten Sahu's paintings explore various facets of women and nature. "In my works I have shown women juxtaposed with nature," says Jiten, who has also brought all the participating artists under one roof.

Showcasing eight sculptures of human and animals figures is Shankar Lal Batham, the lone sculptor at the exhibition. "All the works have been exquisitely handcrafted in white marble. Besides the head of man and female's torso, I have also showcased a bull and an elephant," says Shankar Lal, who is a teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bhopal.

Using watercolours on handmade paper is artist Prabhakar Rai, who has depicted Benaras ghats and the hills of Nainital.

During his long stay in Nepal this past year, artist Manoj Singh was enchanted by the picturesque landscape and decided to do a series of paintings that are displayed here.

Jharkhand-based artist Raj Shankar Jha in his works has attempted to explore various facets of women. "I have shown them in various moods -- happy, unhappy and serious," says Raj Shankar.

West Bengal artist Dipankar Halder has concentrated on colourful tribal art and depicted how Santhal tribals lead their day-to-day life.

Other artists whose works are on display include Chitrasen, Manoj Kumar Singh, Prabhat Ranjan and Anil Khobragare.
