CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Tourism and noted actor Anupam Kher are jointly setting up a new acting institute here. According to an official spokesman, it will be the first such institute in North India after Delhi. It will provide high-end training to the youth of Chandigarh and neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in various nuances of acting and related areas. He said an agreement would be signed later this month between the Chandigarh Administration through its Society for Tourism and Entertainment Promotion in Chandigarh (STEPS) and Actor Prepares, a company floated by Anupam Kher. The Institute will be housed on the premises of the Central Craft Institute in Sector 11 here. The classes are likely to start by April this year. The duration of the course will be one year. The space and the infrastructure for the institute will be provided by STEPS whereas Actor Prepares will provide the faculty and the training inputs. The institute will also have provision for subsidised training of students from economically weaker sections of society. The spokesman said the Chandigarh Administration had been promoting Chandigarh and neighbouring areas as a destination for film making.
